Wireless devices have taken over the market in a really short span. It seems like everyone has adapted to these devices especially in the last few decades. Wireless earbuds are one of those devices but we don’t know if they are safe. These tiny pieces that fit our ears perfectly have earned their place among the favorites.

But, these wireless earbuds have garnered many negative opinions in the past few years. Many scientists have said that these wireless earbuds have health-related consequences and effects on our health. Even so, it seems like no one wants to see or hear about those consequences. However, that doesn’t stop the questions from arising – are wireless earbuds safe?

According to experts, Apple’s AirPods sends an electromagnetic field into your brain. This is not something said randomly, a committee of 250 scientists from 40 different countries has signed a petition.

This petition is signed in order to send a warning against radio wave radiation emitted from wireless devices. These wireless earbuds also raise the risks of cancer. The earbuds remain in close distance to the inner ear and brain.

Moreover, the AirPods use a magnetic field while talking to one another. This magnetic field passes through the brain and the position of the earbuds in the ear canal is the main reason for this. It exposes tissues to high levels of radio-frequency radiation. These cause abnormal cell functioning as they lead to tumors and cancer cells.

Wireless devices have been adopted universally. So, it is not easy to limit the use overnight. There are international and national regulations, but they have not gotten much success. The potential risks of wireless earbuds are concerning the scientists who are unable to find any solution to this.

When we use wireless earbuds, they emit a low level of electromagnetic radiation. These radiations have been classified as dangerous, even carcinogenic to the human body.

The wireless earbuds communicate wirelessly through various electromagnetic waves. They work on low radiowaves. The most dangerous form of radio waves is the one at a high level. These high levels of radiowaves generate heat and cause burns.

There is no reliable information on the effects of low-level radiowaves. But, scientists are continuously working in this regard. They are trying to find the consequences and effects of long-term exposure to low-level radiowaves. 

A part of the continual research included animals. The animals were exposed to the radiowaves. After the exposure, the consequences were not great as expected. It was seen that after being exposed to the radiowaves, there was genetic, neurological, and reproductive damage in those animals.

The scientists discovered that the waves are powerful enough to shake up the atoms that compose cells. But, they couldn’t change the structures fundamentally. The low-level radio waves are less dangerous than the high-level ones. Even though they are less dangerous, the transmissions may cause a certain type of cancer.

This report was published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The scientists are focusing on the intensity of radiation to the human brain and ear canal. The electromagnetic radiations from the wireless earbuds are said to be carcinogenic (cause or tend to cause cancer). This is declared by The International Agency for Research on Cancer.

The most frightening thing about electromagnetic waves is that they are carcinogenic even at the lowest levels. The electromagnetic radiation is not limited to just wireless earbuds, they are also found in devices in cordless phones, cellular phones, Wi-Fi, baby monitors, antennas. 

What Should We Do?

Even though we can’t just shun ourselves from using these, we can take some precautions. Through some precautionary measures, we can avoid some potential health risks.

Always keep your phone 10 inches away from your face. Also, use the phone when it gives a strong signal. Poor reception emits a lot of radiation.

For phone calls, especially the longer ones, we can shift to the speakerphone feature. We can also choose the wired headphones. In prolonged calls, we are exposed to radiation for a long time, and it definitely is harmful. If we shift to speakerphones or wired headphones, then we can decrease the radiation level. This also applies to people who listen to music for hours every day.

Nowadays, we are just so dependent on technologies that even the kids start using them at an early age. Technological devices are handed over to children by the parents instead of toys. These devices have taken the place of toys of childhood.

The toddlers are given a cell phone or something like that to calm down. But, people need to understand that radiation is more harmful to children. They are more sensitive to these radiations as their bodies are still developing. They have smaller heads and thinner skulls. These make them more vulnerable to these radiations of different sorts.

Conclusion

It is not possible to avoid electromagnetic radiation completely since the devices we use are intertwined with our lives. Even though we can’t stop the radiation, we can limit them by taking the aforementioned precautions.

Various news and opinions regarding the safety of wireless earbuds are present in front of us. But, it is still too soon to tell how much danger they are. More research is necessary to make a statement that is expected to show up soon.
